This article is designed to create common understanding around shared concepts for all Hack4Impact stakeholders. While this provides an overview of the terms used throughout the organization, there are additional terms related to individual programs and processes. Hack4Impact: Independent Hack4Impact organizations. This encompasses Hack4Impact Nationals and Hack4Impact Chapters.
Hack4Impact Nationals: The enterprise including all volunteers, chapters, and staff. This includes all offices, referred to based on their locations, including the Denver, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Uganda and future country offices. Hack4Impact staff provide strategic, technical and general support to its many volunteers who drive the vision and mission of the organization. Hack4Impact older terms included: National, Hack4Impact Headquarters, HQ, etc.
Hack4Impact Chapters: Chapters are the organizational structure for Hack4Impact's volunteer groups that are in charge of implementing the organization's programs. There are only student chapters affiliated with a University and primarily made up of student volunteers.
Hack4Impact Volunteers: Volunteers are actively involved with the organization and are identified by registering for and maintaining an active Volunteer Village account. Individuals who let their account expire are considered inactive.
Project: A specific scope of work that is limited primarily to one project type that is performed by Hack4Impact.
Project Type: Hack4Impact works with six project types:
Sustainability: The ability for a project to stay effective long-term. This refers to all parts of a project, but particularly to the community capacity, economic, and environmental aspects of the project.
