Overview

Upon the start of their role, chapter officers are sent a Chapter Officer Agreement to be reviewed and signed. The Agreement details the commitments of both Hack4Impact and the chapter’s executive board. It is intended to provide all parties with the same information in order to align our efforts in driving our shared mission forward.

Chapter Officer Agreement

Every Hack4Impact chapter and volunteer are part of the larger Hack4Impact organization. In order for all players to be moving in the same direction, it’s expected that each person representing Hack4Impact understands, supports and furthers the vision, mission, and values of the organization.

The vision of Hack4Impact is a world where open-source, community-driven, human-centered technology serve the interests of the common good.

The mission of Hack4Impact is to partner with individuals, nonprofits, and communities to building ethical, accessible, and sustainable technology which supports nonprofits working on our most crucial missions and in underserved communities. Connecting anyone who wants to help with the people who need it.

I. Hack4Impact’s Commitments

Whether you are a novice or an experienced Hack4Impact chapter officer, you are fundamental to the ongoing success of the chapter and the organization. We strive to provide you with the support needed to lead a healthy, thriving chapter. You can expect Hack4Impact to provide you with a variety of resources, including but not limited to:

  1. Support
    1. Access to our Slack, Notion, GitHub, Google Suite, and The Commons, our online platform for Hack4Impact volunteers where learning, networking, feedback and support, collaboration, and project work occur
    2. Staff and volunteer leadership, providing strategic direction to ensure the organization’s efforts support sustainable growth that is beneficial to all stakeholders
    3. Visibility of your chapter’s Hack4Impact bank account (including monthly statements, cash advances and expense reimbursements)
    4. Connections to peer support through the Hack4Impact volunteer community
    5. Volunteer leadership support through Hack4Impact committees:
      1. Chapter Operations Committee with state and regional representatives who act as your go-to and can provide assistance in chapter operations and navigating the Hack4Impact network, opportunities, and resources
      2. Partners and Advocacy Committee to help connect you to subject matter experts and provide technical resources or consultation for a specific project upon request
    6. Regular communications and updates through newsletters, virtual town halls, emails, and engagement with your Chapter Operations representative assigned to support your chapter
      1. This includes any substantial changes to policies and procedures that may occur
  2. Marketing and Communications
    1. Listed as an official chapter on the Hack4Impact website and social media, with chapter primary contact information (provided for the chapter through The Commons)
    2. Marketing templates, customized chapter logos, electronic presentations, brochures, and other materials that the chapter may use for internal and promotional purposes may be found in The Commons or furnished by Hack4Impact to the chapter upon request
    3. Limited, non-exclusive and royalty-free license to use Hack4Impact’s trademarks and logos in accordance with Hack4Impact’s Brand Guidelines
    4. Consistent messaging of stories and our shared mission and impact
  3. Project Work
    1. Hack4Impact project process framework for volunteers to work on software engineering projects; this framework includes processes and policies that follow standard engineering practices.
    2. Community development related resources
    3. Vetted nonprofit partners & projects to confirm appropriateness for Hack4Impact’s mission and volunteers
    4. Direct access to interact with assigned Hack4Impact Software Engineer throughout the project process
  4. Fundraising
    1. Access to a growing range of resources to support chapter fundraising activities, including instructional videos, templates, and staff coaching
    2. Access to online fundraising and event registration
    3. Ability to publicize your chapter fundraising and special events through our social media and communication channels
    4. Some degree of financial support for Hack4Impact project-related activities through Hack4Impact’s cost-share program

II. Hack4Impact Chapter Officer Responsibilities

As a leader and key player within the organization, you are helping shape the future of Hack4Impact. We value accountability and look to you to help lead by example by holding yourself accountable as well as your fellow officers, volunteers, and staff.

The titles of each of the officer roles used in this agreement are the standard titles you see used throughout The Commons. These titles are recommended; however, we understand that Hack4Impact chapter structure and operations are not one-size-fits-all. You are encouraged to expand or condense your leadership team to meet the needs and interests of your particular chapter.

Below is a list of responsibilities, distributed by role, that Hack4Impact looks to you and your fellow officers to fulfill. In circumstances when there is a vacancy in an officer role, it is the duty of the other officers to maintain coverage of the stated responsibilities.

All Officers

  1. Establish or update a The Commons account with your current officer role
  2. Complete the following The Commons e-learning courses within the first 8-weeks of assuming your role:
  3. Become familiar with the resources available in The Commons including articles and courses and trainings available in the E-Learning tab.
